Practice Areas

01. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), is a policy that protects about 800,000 young people known as “DREAMERS” who entered the United States unlawfully as children. The program does not grant them official legal status or a pathway to citizenship, but it does allow them to apply for a driver’s license, social security number, and work permit. In addition, they are also able to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation.

02. Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)

The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) creates an immigration route for any victim (regardless of gender) of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Victims of abuse in this situation may receive legal status without the participation or control of the abuser through a VAWA self-petition. Applicants may qualify to file for a derivative depending on the relationship and age of the other individual.

03. U VISAS (victims of crimes, non-immigrant status)

The U visa is a United States nonimmigrant visa which is set aside for victims of crimes (and their immediate family members) who have suffered substantial mental and or physical abuse while in the U.S. and who are willing to assist law enforcement and government officials in the investigation or prosecution of the criminal activity. It permits such victims to enter or remain in the US when they might not otherwise be able to do so.

04. Citizenship Applications

There are different paths to citizenship by naturalization, but there are some general requirements that apply in most situations. In order to qualify for U.S. citizenship, a few qualifications will need to be met. Meeting with the attorney will allow her to determine if one is eligible to apply or not.

05. Waivers (Provisional)

A Provisional Unlawful Presence Waiver is a waiver provided by the USCIS indicating that it waives unlawful presence in the United States as a ground of inadmissibility for a given applicant. It is obtained by applying with Form I-601A to the USCIS. It is used by people currently unlawfully present in the U.S. prior to departing the United States for a consular interview.

06. Family Petitions

The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act of 2000, also known as the LIFE Act and as the Legal Immigration and Family Equity Act, along with its Amendments, made some changes to laws surrounding immigration for family members of United States citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents, as well as people eligible for employment-based immigrant visas.

She is very professional and courteous and her office has “good vibes.” Yvette was always there to help guide me and offer her advice to me as a young man. Yvette helps you feel motivated and keeps your hope up when you have none. My case was complicated due to my past but I always trusted her advice. It was a very long journey of seven years with Yvette. I had been in jail and Yvette did the impossible and got me out. Your time and money goes an extra mile with Yvette and her staff.

The initial consultation was very beneficial and it gave me the confidence to proceed with my case. From the moment I met Yvette she was always on time and energetic for our appointments. Yvette and her team have a welcoming environment. My case was worked on in the middle of the pandemic and everything was still organized and smooth and I am very happy with the outcome of my case.
